Parliament Debates New Rules on Political Advertising

Vaulted hall with long tables and arched windows

Lawmakers began debating a bill on Monday that would require clear labels on all political advertising and cap how much parties can spend on online campaigns in the weeks before an election.

Supporters say the rules would make campaigns more transparent and level the playing field. Critics argue the cap could limit legitimate debate and be difficult to enforce across different platforms.

The bill is expected to go to committee this week. A final vote could come before the end of the session if the government can secure the support of smaller parties.
