Flights began to leave on schedule again on Wednesday after a severe storm grounded aircraft and left thousands of passengers stranded across the region.

Airport operators said crews worked through the night to clear runways and reset schedules. Airlines expect the backlog to ease within two days but warned of continued delays on popular routes.

Travellers were advised to check their booking before leaving home and to allow extra time for security. Some carriers are offering free rebooking until the end of the week.
