Software makers are rushing to release updates for a flaw found in a widely used code library that could let attackers take control of affected systems.

Security researchers said there is no evidence of widespread attacks so far but urged organisations to apply patches as soon as they become available. Several large vendors have already published fixes.

Users are advised to turn on automatic updates and to restart devices after installing them. Companies that cannot update quickly are being told to limit access to affected services.
